Vladimir Tretchikoff

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

BBC has a report on Vladimir Tretchikoff, "king of kitch", who has passed away. A website about him claims that prints of his The Chinese Girl (right) are the largest selling of all time.

The website includes a gallery of pictures many of which are quite interesting. Also see: Wikipedia page about him; Art.com poster gallery.

Great Metro Architecture

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

[via Digg]

LA Hollywood Vine Metro Bits has some great pictures of subway art and architecture. Interesting to see Montreal among those listed — it was the one place I could remember from my meagre travel experiences which had interesting stations.

Mark, if you are still reading this blog, this may be of interest to you (if you haven't seen it already) and Jorge.

Picture credit (from Metro Bits): Hollywood/Vine station of 1999 by artist Gilbert Lujan and architect Adolfo Miralles.

DIY Pollock

Friday, July 21st, 2006

[again via Sivacracy]

Jackson Pollock by Miltos Manetas lets you paint your own Pollock. This was fun to see, especially for a Pollock-hater like me, but then I realized, what an interesting play area for a child. Point your browser at the URL and let your child click away and make his own Pollock!

Remember to use your mouse buttons too!
