A century of whaling may have released more than 100 million tonnes – or a large forest’s worth – of carbon into the atmosphere, scientists say.

Perhaps this might convince those on the Left, who feel forced to reason from “self-interest” alone, that anti-whaling is a good idea.

If all countries had honoured the 1986 ‘zero’ quota on whaling then we might have made more progress on re-establishing larger whale populations than we have. The Japanese on their own have killed 18199 whales since the ban [up to 2008/9].
But just maybe this information is just one more reason to leave them alone. The next challenge is to stop a few Asian countries [Japan included of course] harvesting the whales main food krill.
It seems nothing will stop these global ocean pirates.
